Integrated-Magnetics Converter Kits

Power electronics engineers can now examine the concepts of Integrated Magnetics (IM) in the lab with our best selling IMagineTM II DC-to-DC power converter kit! The kit is designed to produce a multiple-output 50-watt switchmode forward power converter system, complete with bias, regulation and overload control circuitry, where transformer and output filter inductance(s) have been blended into ONE magnetic arrangement! The kit includes all essential electronic and mechanical components, a single-sided silk-screened printed circuit card with mounts, pre-wound wire bobbins for the IM assembly, and a special pre-gapped E-I ferrite core set from Magnetics Inc. Complete assembly and test instructions are also included, with a theory-of-operation section for test reference. Operational frequency of the IMagineTM II kit is 100KHz, with an input voltage range of 24 to 40VDC, and has dual outputs of 5V, 7A and 15V, 1A. Kit assembly time is on the order of 2 hours or less, and only basic bench tools are required for assembly operations. Also included in the kit is an application note detailing the history of IM with circuit diagrams of modern-day IM converter circuits of many varieties. Due to the simplicity of construction and the detailed operations manual that accompanies this kit, it is an excellent teaching aid for instructing students in the fundamentals of switched mode power conversion and associated magnetics design principles. Volume discounts are available to educational institutions interested in using the kit for these purposes. Teachers and instructors - contact us for discount info!

EMI Sniffer® Probes are used in conjunction with an oscilloscope to locate and identify magnetic field sources of electromagnetic interference (EMI) in electronic equipments. These unique probes consist of a miniature pickup coils located in the ends of small shield tubes, with BNC connectors provided for connections to coaxial cables. The output voltage from one of these Sniffer® Probes is essentially proportional to the rate of change of the ambient magnetic field, and thus to the rate of change of nearby currents.

The principal advantages of these Sniffer® Probes over simple pickup loops are:

1. Spatial resolution of about a millimeter,
2. Relatively high sensitivity for small coils,
3. 50-ohm source terminations to minimize cable reflections with unterminated scope inputs,
4. Faraday shielding to minimize sensitivity to electric fields.

These EMI Sniffer® Probes were developed to diagnose sources of EMI in switchmode power converters, but they can also be used to look for EMI noise sources in high-speed logic systems and other kinds of electronic equipments.

There are presently seven (7) different types of EMI Sniffer® Probes, each with different lengths and characteristics. Each probe comes with an application note describing its AC characteristics and suggestions on how to use it properly.
